- The subdistrict municipality San Chao Rong Thong (เทศบาลตำบลศาลเจ้าโรงทอง), Wiset Chai Chan district, Ang Thong, gets renamed to Wiset Chai Chan (เทศบาลตำบลวิเศษไชยชาญ) [Gazette]. While the choice of name is not that surprising - the district office of Wiset Chai Chan is within the municipality - the strange thing is the actual spelling. Whereas the district is spelled วิเศษชัยชาญ, the municipality is spelled วิเศษไชยชาญ, the Chai is written differently. Whereas the first one translates as "victory", the second has apparently no translation. Maybe it's simply the traditional spelling of the district, as the first province governor of Ang Thong in the list on the Thai Wikipedia has the name-title พระยาวิเศษไชยชาญ (Phraya Wiset Chai Chan).
- The subdistrict municipality Wang Nam Yem, Wang Nam Yen district, Sa Kaeo province, gets upgraded to a town municipality (เทศบาลเมืองวังน้ำเย็น) [Gazette]. The municipality was just merged with the TAO Wang Nam Yen, so an election of the municipal council and mayor was necessary anyway, so if the enlarged municipality mathes all the preconditions for the upgrade this was the best time to do the upgrade without inserting an extra election, or waiting another 4 years till the end of term of a newly election council and mayor.
- Transfer of some area of the TAO Wiang (องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลเวียง) to the subdistrict municipality Wiang Thoeng (เทศบาลตำบลเวียงเทิง), Thoeng district, Chiang Rai province. Comparing the map in the announcement with the one of the 1957 creation of the sanitary district shows that most the area added is the one west of the river, which previously formed the boundary. The announcement on the TAO area change as usual does not include a map.

Municipal announcements from December 17
Last week, four changes for municipalities were announced in the Royal Gazette, which all took me by surprise as the board meeting transcript did not cover them - so they may have been decided in the board after September 9, which is the latest one currently available. It would fit, as usually the time between board meeting and announcement seems to be something around 3 month, except those cases where it takes way longer without apparent reason.
