Most city pillars in Thailand are not that old and were built in provincial capitals to symbolize central power. This one was erected in 1974.And quite fitting was his visit to Phimai on the return way, a nice comparison of the modern Khmer-style city pillar shrine, and the original (although reconstructed) Khmer buildings of Phimai.
